Jkm7680 suggests that you remove the pieces of wood, sand them down a little bit and paint them black for maximum discreetness.

Fake carbon fiber is fairly cheap. It’s like $8.00 or something for a roll of it at Autozone and probably even cheaper on ebay, because ebay.
